St.Gallen, October 2023 – At the Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks for Spring/Summer 2024, Forster Willi once again impressed the international fashion design elite with refined creations. The St.Gallen textile manufacturer already perceives evolving fashion trends through its commissions.
For this season’s collections, Forster Willi Business Unit Head Elisheva Senn observed one key development: “Luxury is becoming quieter, yet in its essence surpasses everything.” This sophisticated and restrained style emphasizes craftsmanship, which is highly valued today. “Everyone is searching for the stories behind the materials,” Senn adds. The “quiet luxury” trend was particularly evident, with the season’s designs showing minimal reliance on overt finishing techniques.
Forster Willi for Christian Dior
The three creations for Christian Dior feature classic Guipure made from pure cotton thread. The French fashion house sought to reinterpret its renowned and timeless “Toile-de-Jouy” motif in embroidery. Traditionally, “Toile-de-Jouy” fabrics are cotton-based and printed with pastoral scenes, landscapes, or mythological narratives. These classic motifs were integrated into the embroidery, resulting in an intriguing interplay between textile and embroidery craftsmanship while emphasizing the timeless elegance of “Toile-de-Jouy.” The monochromatic character was also retained.

Forster Willi for Chanel
For the CHANEL runway, Forster Willi created a Soutache embroidery featuring a delicate floral pattern. The CHANEL logo was carefully integrated into the center of each flower. Sequin thread was combined with fine polyester thread and meticulously embroidered, with the backing material removed to achieve the desired Guipure effect.
